This Privacy Policy explains how Modern Paper Inc. (“Modern Paper”, “we”, “us”) handles information in connection with PDF As You Go (the “Service”) — our pay-as-you-go PDF processing MCP server and HTTP API.
The short version
Section titled “The short version”- We have no user accounts and issue no API keys. We don’t collect names, emails, or passwords to use the Service (only if you choose to email us).
- We process your documents transiently to perform the operation you request, then delete them. We do not use your documents to train models, and we do not sell or share document contents.
- Payment happens over the x402 protocol on a public blockchain. We do not collect or store card or bank details.
Information we process
Section titled “Information we process”Documents and operation inputs
Section titled “Documents and operation inputs”To perform an operation you send us a document (by URL, upload, or inline data) and parameters (for example a watermark text, a page range, or a password used to encrypt or decrypt a file). We process these only to carry out the requested operation and return a result.
Operational and technical data
Section titled “Operational and technical data”To run, secure, and account for the Service, we process limited technical data, which may include:
- network information such as IP address and request headers;
- request metadata such as timestamp, the operation requested, and document page/byte counts;
- the payer wallet address and payment/settlement references associated with a paid request; and
- error and diagnostic logs.
This operational data does not include the contents of your documents.
Payment information
Section titled “Payment information”Payments are made in USDC over x402 and settled on a public blockchain (Base by default). Blockchain transactions are inherently public and are recorded on a ledger we do not control. We receive a settlement confirmation (including a transaction reference and payer address) but do not collect credit-card numbers, bank-account details, or similar payment credentials.
Communications
Section titled “Communications”If you contact us (for example to request preview access or for support), we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address and the contents of your message.
How we use information
Section titled “How we use information”We use the information above to:
- perform the PDF operations you request and return results;
- verify and account for payments;
- operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service, including preventing abuse and fraud;
- diagnose problems and provide support; and
- comply with legal obligations.
What we do not do
Section titled “What we do not do”- We do not use your documents to train machine-learning models.
- We do not sell your documents or operational data.
- We do not mine or profile the contents of your documents.
Data retention
Section titled “Data retention”| Data | Retention (preview default) |
|---|---|
| Input documents | Held only for the duration of the operation, then deleted. |
| Output documents | Available behind a signed URL for 60 minutes, then deleted. |
| Operation metadata (timestamps, operation type, counts, payment reference) | Retained for accounting and abuse prevention. |
| Support communications | Retained as needed to handle and follow up on your request. |
See Privacy & retention for more detail on document handling.
How information is shared
Section titled “How information is shared”We share information only as needed to operate the Service:
- Service providers. We use infrastructure providers (for example, hosting and storage) and a payment facilitator that verifies and settles x402 payments. These providers process data on our behalf or to complete a transaction you initiate.
- Blockchain networks. Payment transactions are broadcast to and recorded on public blockchains, which are operated by third parties and are outside our control.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Modern Paper, our users, or the public.
We do not otherwise sell or rent your information.
Security
Section titled “Security”We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect information, including transient processing of documents, short retention windows, and access controls. Output download URLs are signed and expire; treat them as sensitive. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International processing
Section titled “International processing”Modern Paper operates the Service from, and may process data in, the United States and other countries. By using the Service you understand that your information may be processed in locations that may have different data-protection rules than your own.
Your choices and rights
Section titled “Your choices and rights”Because we don’t maintain accounts, most data we hold is either transient (your documents) or operational (logs and payment references). Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete certain personal information we hold about you. To make a request, or for any privacy question, contact us at privacy@pdfasyougo.com. Note that blockchain records we do not control cannot be altered or deleted by us.
Children
Section titled “Children”The Service is not directed to children and is intended for developers and automated agents. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
Section titled “Changes to this policy”We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected in the Changelog where appropriate.
